Recognizing Warning Signs During Physical Activity

If you experience dizziness, breathing trouble, or unusual distress during movement, stop immediately and rest. Pushing through these symptoms to maintain a streak or meet an exercise goal creates unnecessary risk. Your routine should support your health, not jeopardize it. Any amount of movement is better than none when adapted to your ability, weather, and personal circumstances.
Know the red flags
Distinguish between expected fatigue from a challenging session and symptoms that signal a medical emergency. Stop your activity immediately if you notice these red flags:
- Dizziness or lightheadedness: If the room feels like it is spinning or you feel unsteady on your feet, your body is signaling a lack of proper circulation or oxygenation.
- Breathing trouble: Shortness of breath that does not subside with a brief pause, or a feeling of tightness in the chest, requires immediate attention.
